There’s something so Serena van der Woodsen about this Polka Dot Credenza ($2,299); can’t you just see it in her polka dot bedroom? I can certainly see it in mine! Thanks to an internal lighting system and frosted glass discs set in the dark beech wood frame, this credenza diffuses light beautifully, almost like a constellation. It’s obviously designed for a modern home, but I think there’s a lot of versatility in where you could use it . . . in the dining room to store linens, a living room as media storage, or a bedroom to stash clothes and personal items. I think it’s stellar, don’t you?

The Meri Drum Chandelier by Oly Studio: Something as simple as a polka dot is reinvented in this fun drum design.  The peired white resin fixture is versatile because of its clean white color, yet completely unique in beautiful design.

Elisa Saucy’s signature jewelry. While her work has a youthful fun appeal, many pieces are inscribed with messages that speak of a life learned wisdom. Many have found wearing these inscriptions to be daily a affirmation and inspiration.

I’ve discovered these pieces of furniture with a really unusual shape for a piece of furniture work of Los Carpinterios, a group of two Cuban contemporary artists.  The most interesting and in the same time unusual pieces of furniture were the grenade-jewelry case and the hands with all the drawers.

Sleek unusual lighting At Your Command by Singapore-based designer Daniel Loves Objects, who has taken form and design to a new level. This golden human-shaped lamp is not only aesthetically provoking, it is poseable. As in you can move its joint to a pose you desire. Brilliant!

DIY fashionistas will love this dress! A fun fashion project by fashion designer Berber Soepboer and graphic designer Michiel Schurman. Fill in the patterns on the dress in the colors you desire. All you need is a Sharpie and a steady hand. Awesome!

These stainless steel straws are just so cool! Not only are they reusable, they will also add chicness to your drinks!

Okay, this is just bizarre! Who comes up with this stuff! Seriously?! Meet the latest fashion accessory…eye jewelry. Some kind of baubles (and we sure hope they’re lightweight) are suspended by medical wire, attached to a contact lens. Can you imagine? I can’t stand getting an eyelash in my eye, let alone some wire contraption.

Concrete Lace exploits the unique characteristics of a locally produced material to create an architectural object that combines craftsmanship with modern technology. Concrete Lace elements are hung with steel cables and make a complete curtain of 3.30m height.

CHAIR – Here’s the “The Swing Chair” it is made of aluminum sheet and polished with the color variants. Designed by Angelo Tomaiuolo this  characterizes modern and the precious delicacy of lace-work of textiles, ideal for residential houses, and an ergonomic chair. Having an accent color coated steel and chrome foot trunk, adds uniqueness and elegance in this chair. A modern take on an old fashioned medium.

I WANT THAT FENCE! The wire gives you cool images like a lace, very romantic if your fence is built near your living room, so when the sunset comes in, it can make a beautiful shade in your wall. This decorative lace wire fence was created by Dutch designer- Demakersvan. This fence design idea combines the decorative appeal of lace and the rugged wire fencing. For commercial spaces why not add some interest, how says industrial objects have to be boring. And yes you can climb this.. brilliant!

I love taking the cue’s from fahion and showing how the two indutries are compatable. I couldn’t resist the fabulous fashion icon’s summer 2010 line; Dolce and Gabbana.  And of course this leads into jewelry as well, this cuff would look great with modern or classic clothing.

When you think of fashion it’s a great statement. For clothing, shoes, purses or jewelry it makes the item pop. One of the top fashion trends in recent years has been the recurrence of turquoise jewelry. Big chunky necklaces paired with a black top, make the turquoise set off the look. And don’t forget about paint. Turn a boring bathroom into a tropical paradise with turquoise paint, paired with some sea shells in a bowl, and you have an oasis in your home. Or take a dull bedroom, paint the walls a neutral tone, and then purchase a turquoise bedspread and watch your room come to life. Painting in a neutral tone and using colored accents makes it easy to change if you bore of a color. Another recent trend is to pair turquoise and brown. This combination brings together those natural colors that remind you of nature. You can use this pair for fashion, decorating or even outdoor paint.

• Turquoise has cooling effects, figuratively lowering a room’s temperature.

• It’s a fashion staple. Always in style, turquoise has recently influenced interior designers with its opaque quality and ability to create impact — even in small doses.

• Turquoise has good karma. American Indians have long praised the mineral for its spiritual and healing properties.

• It works year-round. Add a shot of hot pink, lemon, or chartreuse, and the look is tropical-chic. In velvet or paired with brown or ocher, it’s dramatic.

A visitor gets a first impression of your home at your front porch, whether it’s a simple stoop or a wrap-around front porch. Landscaping and accenting a pathway to your front door will create a welcoming feeling before visitors approach your front door.  Make sure your front door is in good shape with new paint and clean windows to make the most of what is already there. Work from the front door out to draw visitors directly to the entryway to your home.

If you don’t have a green thumb that’s OK, purchasing potted plants or containers that have been already created by stores works just as well. Or get your hands dirty and enjoy the weather while planting some colorful or textural plants.  Potted plants are a great way to change with the seasons and if you tire of a scheme you can change this out very easily.

The pathway is one of the most important aspects to the welcoming of visitors. This should be in good condition, safety first. If you want to make a strong impact with little expense; paint your front door a bold color.

Accessorize with outdoor pillows, blankets, candles and vases of flowers. An outdoor area rug is a great way to anchor a space just as this is done for the inside of the home. Along with cut flowers on a bench, table or add a wreath on the door.

Choosing your color scheme can be based on the seasons or an introduction of the colors a guest will experience when inside your home.  Have fun and experiment with potted plants and accessories.

Show your softer side with a pastel color scheme. As long as you choose colors of the same intensity, you can pull in a wide variety of patterns and prints. In fact, the broader your selection, the more sophisticated the look becomes. Painted pieces are a natural complement, so spruce up unfinished furniture or even flea market finds with a fresh coat of your favorite pastel shade to complete the look.

For a fresh look pair chalky, light, faded powdery hues with more intense shaded neutrals like beige, taupe and light gray. Take a look also at adding a piece of upholstered furniture or if you just can’t commit to the use of “pastels” try a table setting!

In closing pastels offer a softer base and creates longevity as it can always be updated to look dramatically different with accessories. In this time of economic unrest, people are looking for comforting colors, and the savvy consumer is always searching for quality over quantity.

With spring around the corner fashion is showing us that french inspired nautical black and white stripes will be every where.  Grab a que from fashion to update or inspire your interior. Take a look at the entry way with bold black and white stripes making a statement without being over powering. This can be done with paint or wallpaper and could be done on a weekend for those who can’t wait.  Yes, instant gratification.  Another picture illustrates how you can be inspired by the use of black and white stripes without making a big commitment.  Such as adding an area rug, throw pillows or updating some lampshades.  These are all simple and affordable ideas to implement into your room.  How about adding some appeal to that laundry room, we all know it’s a room that we spend more time than we wanted in. Who says it has to be boring?  Stripes and that ever popular word wall art. No major commitment.

March is the month to celebrate green!  I found some fun green information and thought it was interesting to share.

Green is thought to relieve stress and help heal. Those who have a green work environment experience fewer stomachaches.

Green has long been a symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century. Will this come full circle, probably not.

Green also represents tranquility, good luck, health, and jealousy.

Designers at Nendo sure know how to play with ideas and create wild things-literally. The picture below with the green scroll pattern are taken in an actual house in Tokyo. The fact that the property is located on a riverbank and it had some vegetation growing on the external facades of the building, inspired the designers to come up with green separating walls for the interior also. “Moss House” is the name of the project and this is a creation that deserves its name.  Even though this is a fantastic idea- not to mention original- taking care of this walls may not be the easiest thing to do.
